So i played this awesome little radio show called "The Red Telephone" at WSCA Portsmouth, NH Community Radio. Alicia Ines and Will Etheridge were the hosts and they're great! They cooked me and some friends dinner the night before :) It was good. Alicia and Will also help coordinate the Tower of Song in Portland, ME (which is a badass venue). Will was nice enough to send along a recording of the radio show and here it is! Check it out please.... I also recently played the Allstar Lesbian Review. Wow. They really know how to sexualize performers and their songs. I sang a song, literally about my love of baking bread, and they thought it was a metaphor for sex. It does make a good metaphor for sex, but that's definitely NOT what the song is about to me. It makes for a good story though :) |

Tower of Song in Portland was pretty fucking cool. They literally blast speakers out this tower they live in, which happens to be situated in a canyon of sorts so the music projects very very far. Folks hung out in little clusters in the street staring up, listening. Thank you to Alica and Will and Johnny for ahving me. Johnny Fountain and Lady Lamb the Beekeeper played. Aly and TJ from LLB were terrific so you should check them out on my space. Sherie and I had to leave before they were done (which was hard to do cuz i wanted to listen for longer), but we got to listen to them as we walked down congress street and could hear them for many many blocks. It carried so far and sounded so damn good. Their cd is on repeat in my house. I love it. On our walk to get some food after the show, strangely enough, we saw two tigers anxiously pacing and pawing at the metal bars in their cages waiting to be fed and out of the darkness we saw these quiet rocking figures appear......elephants. I guess the circus was in town. Such a strange visual and it broke our hearts to see them there.....there should not be tigers and elephants in portland, me. |

went on tour with dave end. he can make up songs on the spot. he is very good at it. i liked all his costumes. one involved tentacles. he let me play his accordian and i had a brief affair with it and now i want one of my own. we played in nyc at the sidewalk cafe. apparently that is where jeffrey lewis, beck, kimya dawson, etc. got there start. a lot of my friends from indiana were there. they are more like family really, but not they live in new york and it was nice to feel so at home in such a big and strange place. dave had everyone rolling in laughter with his slam poet improv. then we moved on to tivoli, ny where we played on the backporch of a house he used to live in when he went to bard college. the porch had lovely people playing music on it and they let us record the chorus of their new hit single :) there was a beautiful curtian blowing in the wind and the windchimes were made out of spoons and forks and now i think all music should have wind chimes in the background. i played his ukulele alot and he gave it to me! we played in boston and ended in at my home, the faire-op. quite a crowd too! i immediately want to go on tour with dave again. he's playing in portland on saturday july 5th at the meg perry center!!! i wanna go but i'm playing too (at the chill yoga stduio with Arborea (http://www.myspace.com/arborea), Israeli singer-songwriter Noa Babayof (http://www.myspace.com/noababayof) , and Sharon Van Etten from Brooklyn (http://www.sharonvanetten.com/). They were nice enough to ask me to play a short opening. It'll be brief but will involve the ukulele : |

Had the cd release at guthries in lewiston and some surprise guests came, micah and drew (to add to deacon and i). the place was packed, not sure how much i had to do with it cuz guthries has a huge draw in this city, but most everybody i knew was there and i was lucky enough to have sherie and myles join me on a song or two. drew, from auburn did a supurb job on his hand-made (that he made himself) guitar. what a great storyteller and he played this fucking cute song about a girl he had been in love with since he was 8 :) micah, who i guess just got off a tour from eastern europe was there and i felt pretty honored that he came out. i've had his cd for a while and am a lot of respect for his music and his other projects (the band big blood!). he played the 12 string, clawhammer style.....i was truely inspired and mesmorized and possibly a little star struck (in a sense). deacon was, as always, fiery and spectacular. the words and images that flow out of him amaze me and inspire me to write more poetry. it just seems like he can grab all of life and spit it out in a poem and the poem is about everything. i could listen to him several times a week and still learn something new. thank you all for coming out. it was a dreamy evening. the follow up show from the bangarang was a more intimate crowd huddled up together on couches and floors in the living room. rose, ethan, deacon, and i played by passing the guitar around. i wish i was more able to articulate how much i am moved by ethan's music, but i seem to awkwardly fail everytime. maybe someday he'll know :) rose was cute as ever and left a pretty catchy new song he wrote in my head, "shivers". the new cdwill be available soon at bullmoose music and the ronj in lewiston and cdbaby and other online locations in the next week or too. for now you can get it at guthries, by request, or at any shows i play. the next show is feb. 21st in lewiston |
