So i played this awesome little radio show called "The Red Telephone" at WSCA Portsmouth, NH Community Radio. Alicia Ines and Will Etheridge were the hosts and they're great! They cooked me and some friends dinner the night before :) It was good. Alicia and Will also help coordinate the Tower of Song in Portland, ME (which is a badass venue). Will was nice enough to send along a recording of the radio show and here it is! Check it out please.... I also recently played the Allstar Lesbian Review. Wow. They really know how to sexualize performers and their songs. I sang a song, literally about my love of baking bread, and they thought it was a metaphor for sex. It does make a good metaphor for sex, but that's definitely NOT what the song is about to me. It makes for a good story though :) |

Tower of Song in Portland was pretty fucking cool. They literally blast speakers out this tower they live in, which happens to be situated in a canyon of sorts so the music projects very very far. Folks hung out in little clusters in the street staring up, listening. Thank you to Alica and Will and Johnny for ahving me. Johnny Fountain and Lady Lamb the Beekeeper played. Aly and TJ from LLB were terrific so you should check them out on my space. Sherie and I had to leave before they were done (which was hard to do cuz i wanted to listen for longer), but we got to listen to them as we walked down congress street and could hear them for many many blocks. It carried so far and sounded so damn good. Their cd is on repeat in my house. I love it. On our walk to get some food after the show, strangely enough, we saw two tigers anxiously pacing and pawing at the metal bars in their cages waiting to be fed and out of the darkness we saw these quiet rocking figures appear......elephants. I guess the circus was in town. Such a strange visual and it broke our hearts to see them there.....there should not be tigers and elephants in portland, me. |

went on tour with dave end. he can make up songs on the spot. he is very good at it. i liked all his costumes. one involved tentacles. he let me play his accordian and i had a brief affair with it and now i want one of my own. we played in nyc at the sidewalk cafe. apparently that is where jeffrey lewis, beck, kimya dawson, etc. got there start. a lot of my friends from indiana were there. they are more like family really, but not they live in new york and it was nice to feel so at home in such a big and strange place. dave had everyone rolling in laughter with his slam poet improv. then we moved on to tivoli, ny where we played on the backporch of a house he used to live in when he went to bard college. the porch had lovely people playing music on it and they let us record the chorus of their new hit single :) there was a beautiful curtian blowing in the wind and the windchimes were made out of spoons and forks and now i think all music should have wind chimes in the background. i played his ukulele alot and he gave it to me! we played in boston and ended in at my home, the faire-op. quite a crowd too! i immediately want to go on tour with dave again. he's playing in portland on saturday july 5th at the meg perry center!!! i wanna go but i'm playing too (at the chill yoga stduio with Arborea (http://www.myspace.com/arborea), Israeli singer-songwriter Noa Babayof (http://www.myspace.com/noababayof) , and Sharon Van Etten from Brooklyn (http://www.sharonvanetten.com/). They were nice enough to ask me to play a short opening. It'll be brief but will involve the ukulele : |

Had the cd release at guthries in lewiston and some surprise guests came, micah and drew (to add to deacon and i). the place was packed, not sure how much i had to do with it cuz guthries has a huge draw in this city, but most everybody i knew was there and i was lucky enough to have sherie and myles join me on a song or two. drew, from auburn did a supurb job on his hand-made (that he made himself) guitar. what a great storyteller and he played this fucking cute song about a girl he had been in love with since he was 8 :) micah, who i guess just got off a tour from eastern europe was there and i felt pretty honored that he came out. i've had his cd for a while and am a lot of respect for his music and his other projects (the band big blood!). he played the 12 string, clawhammer style.....i was truely inspired and mesmorized and possibly a little star struck (in a sense). deacon was, as always, fiery and spectacular. the words and images that flow out of him amaze me and inspire me to write more poetry. it just seems like he can grab all of life and spit it out in a poem and the poem is about everything. i could listen to him several times a week and still learn something new. thank you all for coming out. it was a dreamy evening. the follow up show from the bangarang was a more intimate crowd huddled up together on couches and floors in the living room. rose, ethan, deacon, and i played by passing the guitar around. i wish i was more able to articulate how much i am moved by ethan's music, but i seem to awkwardly fail everytime. maybe someday he'll know :) rose was cute as ever and left a pretty catchy new song he wrote in my head, "shivers". the new cdwill be available soon at bullmoose music and the ronj in lewiston and cdbaby and other online locations in the next week or too. for now you can get it at guthries, by request, or at any shows i play. the next show is feb. 21st in lewiston |

Lots to Garden's Soup & Music Night (aka Alive in Lewiston) was a huge success and we hope to do it next year. We had 3 homemade, homegrown soups from our gardens a nd cooking clubs. We had bread & cheese from Nezinscot Farm and Italian Bakery. Apple Cider from Willowpond farm. The music was magical, the company inspiring. Definitely a needed event here in Lewiston. Hopefully, I'll have some pictures soon. Most of the ones we took were blurry :( |

Show on Saturday 10/20 with Betsy Mattox @ 7pm. Located at She Doesn't Like Guthries in Lewiston, ME. I'll be giving out a two song sampler of the new album I've been workin on the past 2 weeks in Indiana. My goal was to finish it, but time did not allow me to be as creatively thorough as I would have liked. Soooo.......the project will continue when I return to Indiana in December. In the meantime, I too excited just to sit on it soo that's way i'm handing out the sneak peak discs. Please come out if you can. Guthries is a very awesome joint. |

I've been out of touch for a while with a new move and lots of financial trouble, but I'm happy to report that I'm reconnected to virtual world of internet. In the meantime, I've played a few shows most recently in Portland at the Northstar Cafe w/ Ellaine Colella. Thanks Elaine! New show added to the calendar for the Annual MSA Music Festival September 8-9th. More info to come! Check out the shows page. |

Northstar Cafe in Portland is my new favorite place to play!! Thanks Anna Maria and to all the Lewiston folks who came out to see the show: Craig, Ari, Renee, Rose, Nik, Ariel, Erin. Just in case anyone checks this website I found some new recordings that Eric from Namaste recorded before I moved here to Maine. Thank you Eric (i'm sorry we never finished the project) Nervous System features Eric on bass. I thought I would share. They are drafts and some mistakes, but none the less new stuff so enjoy the free music: |

Cinco de Mayo was a full day....full of soccer, a gender discussion, haircut, and the SAVES benefit show. Catherine (co-worker at Lots to Gardens....THANK YOU)) and her puppy, Sean Paul, gave my partner, Sherie, and I a ride to my show and before hand she gave me a haircut full of lots of feathering :) Unfortunately, Sean Paul was not as up for the car ride as the rest of us and he got sick quite often. The actual show was small due to a conflict in scheduling, but getting to see Shawn, his band, molly, and their kids was well worth t he trip. Thanks again to you, Shawn and Molly a s well as Judy Rawlings with SAVES for including me in such an event.. I was paralyzed by sleep when i got home. I bet Sean Paul was too.

Since I last wrote, I've played two shows. The one at the Bang A Rang with Cheer up Merry Weather from Missoula, MT had a potluck to go with it and I played in front of a very cozy living room o f friends and new faces. Cheer Up Merry Weather played some pretty incredible guitar licks with cute poppy lyrics. Good stuff, check him out! Thanks to Ryan C. for inviting to his home. Thursday, I had a show with my good friend Betsy Mattox who I wish I could hear and see more of. She plays old-timey sounding tunes that are original like "Cows have tales but they don't tell them". I love it! If she had a CD or a website or something I'd list it here, but she's a farmer lady and does it the old fashioned way, or rather the right way :) |

Had an adventure last night on my journey to play at The People's Free Space. While waiting for the bus to Portland I met a guy named Matthew who traveled up from Florida on a whim with a friend because there was an add for a Winter Carnival job that would let you enjoy a "Summer in Maine". He was unimpressed by the wages and the snow. He was trying to sell his two guitars and an amp and a cd player and the Star Wars trilogy. We talked about guitars and as he was leaving he told me "good luck" and "stay a winter". He fumbled over his words and said "I'll see you soon......i mean i'll hear you soon....on the radio" I smiled. That's unlikely to happen. Once the bus got there late and we were almost in portland a lady in the front fell out of her seat and tumbled down the stairs and into the door of the bus. The bus driver barely stopped and she was still laying down there when he took off and we were trying to help her up and make sure she was breathing. She's ok. That God! Then i left and walked with my heavy guitar up Congress St. to meet Renee a t MCA to help her make paper! That was the best thing ever. Thank you Renee! Then we went for burritos and i had a yummy root beer. Then to an art opening where there was an i nteractive piece that asked you to plant a tomato seed. So i carried around a peat moss pot with a tomato baby (with Renee's help) the r est of the way. Once a t the show at the Free Space. It was very full and comfy and there was fancy good food everywhere. Jonah's art show: called Transformations was 10 years of his journaling and his work made a lovely view to look it while playing. It was fun getting lost i n the colors and textures. I met a nice guy named Jim who is a jazz drummer and who was recording the show. we talked about touring and sometimes how nice it is to stay in one place. he's gonna be nice enough to send me a copyof t he show. yay for live recordings! i played alone except for the fire decector solo:) Cristina said that would be a good name for the song that it interrupted. i think she is right. There was a g irl in the back who was swaying back and forth and dancing w hile i played :) i don't remember your name but you have one dimple when you smile. thank you. Jonah's performance was intense and edgy then he played with Henifa and they sang a song about Tourists i n Maine! Great song. Then Henifa played a solo show. I thought she was really something. Then Renee and I had to leave so i could make my 9:45 bus back to Lewiston where i met a woman from france who just came back from there and i let her borrow my phone to call a cab and she told me about her sicknesses and how in france she went to a party with her son and his policemen friends and that they drank all night. it was dark outside but she had sunglasses on. i couldn't figure that out. then i treated myself, my bag, my guitar, and my tomato baby to a cab home. Thanks to Jonah, Henifa, and the People's Free Space! |

Happy April Fools Day! New show added April 9th in Lewiston, ME. Thank you Ryan Conrad! Had a show last night in Unity, ME for the local and sustainable foods conference! Went to workshops on Fermenting and Preserving Foods, Food-to-Schools project, and gave a workshop with Ari and Linda about food outside of school. It was such a full day and Ari and I discovered that a five minute walk makes all the difference when you are feeling couped up! We were fed by Food Not Bombs from Bangor. Thank you! And thank you to all the farms who donated foods! Thanks to Terra for organizing the conference and inviting all the musicians (including myself). And thank you to all the workshop givers! I went away recharged. The music started with me. We played in a great performing arts hall with red curtains and fancy lights. It had a balcony. The crowd was small, but people were kind enough to come up front and dance to my mostly undancable music. Thank you for that. Weatherbeaten was up next. I've played with them before at the JED Solidarity dinner. I hope someday to hear them play where I picture what there music makes me feel. Sitting 'round a fire or on a cabin porch w/ some whiskey and rolled tobacco (or other things). They have such a haunting sound, like ghosts. Shawn Mercer and the Boondock Blues band ended the night with some very dancy blues tunes. He covered Old Crow Medicine Show and Johnny Cash! |
